Delhi Elections 2020: Parties battling on social media
8th February, 2020 is the day. And with the elections fast approaching the tussle to gain power in the national capital is heating up, where social media battle is doing the talking in the urban dominated constituency like Delhi. With AAP’s social media strategist saying, “it is very important to have a well defined social media strategy in urban constituency like Delhi”. It’s AAP who is taking on the national parties; the BJP and the Congress, in the raging social media battles with their various social media weapons.
In the elections of 2015, AAP made a clean sweep by winning 67 seats out of the 70 seats that were contested for. During the elections of 2015 social media was used by political parties to share their political philosophies and parties were involved in direct bantering on the other party through social media posts. This time around the strategy has been changed and parties are using Ad clips, movie clips, spoofs etc to mock each other. This trend was first started by AAP.
AAP was the first to begin the so called social media battle with its spoof using Ambuja Cement Advertisement.

This Ad shows that, the Aam Aadmi Party is as strong as the wall (shown in the Ad) in Delhi and it is almost impossible for the BJP or the Congress to bring them down from the power.
AAP has even mocked BJP for not nominating the Chief Ministerial candidate.
BJP has come with spoof called “‘PAAP’ ki Adalat”, from a popular TV show by Arvind Kejriwal called ‘AAP ki Adalat’.

This ad describes how the Kejriwal government has failed to keep up the promise and the Kejriwal lookalike has stated he only knows how to protest and not run a government. Responding to this tweet the AAP team came up with a meme asking the BJP team to get original guys.
Summing up the twitter war so far.

While congress has been resolved to attack AAP with the hashtag #jhaadukajhaansa, highlighting the failures to keep up the promises through various posts.
Saral Patel who is incharge of INC Delhi social media content said, Elections are fought more on social media than on ground these days. “Social media campaigns used to be secondary campaigns, but now it has become the central/primary campaign for any party.”
To better understand leaders visit
We see that social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp will engage the youth audience and the older generation citizens, while Twitter will remain the top go to platform for any political campaigns. With the emergence of TikTok, where more of the younger voter base (below the age of 25) are active will also be a key platform.
We expect this mocking and engaging to continue until the completion of the elections on social media. Party who are more innovative, creative and think out of the box will win this social media battle.
This sums up that no party can sustain without having any digital presence. Effective use of digital media helps parties and leaders to reach larger audience, within a short span without having to step out. It even helps them to share their ideas and get opinions from citizens.
The results are not too far, and we can result for this online battle on 11th December, 2020.
